Good communication skills are essential for relationships. This applies to every area in your life. Communication in your relationships, at work, at home, with friends, family and colleagues. If you look at situations where it is obvious to you there is conflict, chaos or discord, the root cause is usually poor communication skills.

What are the basic components of good communication skills? Let’s look at them one by one.

1. Be clear on what you want. By this, I mean that you know how you want your life to be or any situation that you’re currently involved in. Lack of focus and clarity is a major cause of frustration and this may be why you feel like your life is going in circles.

2. Speak clearly and with enough volume that others can hear and understand what you say. Another aspect of this is using the type of language that is familiar to the listener. This will help you create rapport with them.

3. The way you present yourself. What I mean by this is being dressed and groomed in a manner that is the same or similar to those you’re speaking to. In the same way that using similar language style as the listener, this will make them feel that you’re the same as them and they are more likely to listen to you and hear you.

4. Good communication skills also include speaking to people about the things that interest them. Like it or not, most people love nothing better than the opportunity to discuss things that are dear to their heart. The favorite topic of conversation is usually… them. It’s ok for them to be like that, and knowing this gives you a powerful advantage over everybody else who just wants to tell their own story.

5. Listen well. How do you listen well? Instead of rehearsing over and again what you’re going to say to the other person the next time they pause for breath, you will do better if you listen to what they are saying and reflect back “keywords” that they use more than once. This will indicate to them that you’re actually interested in what they’re saying and will rapidly make you a person they trust.

6. Choose your audience. Even if you use all of the strategies I’ve outlined above, you may still feel that you’re not heard or understood. This probably has nothing to do with whether or not you’ve got good communication skills. There are some people in the world who are so rapped up in themselves that they do not know how to listen to others, are not interested in listening and probably never will.

If you know someone like this, forward them a link to this article as it may make a difference in their life, and it will definitely make a difference in yours.

7. Know your subject. I’m assuming here that you want good communication skills to be able to influence others. It is more likely that people will listen to you if they believe you know what you’re talking about. In most instances, they will definitely listen to you if they think you’re an expert. Becoming an expert is a topic for a future article I will post on this site.

When you improve your communication skills using the tips just outlined, you will notice an almost immediate improvement in how you’re received. This will in turn improve your levels of satisfaction and happiness.

Tongue twisters are very useful for every foreign language learners in all stages of improving language pronunciation skills and communication abilities. Sometimes even native speakers find the tongue-twisters difficult to say quickly and clearly several times. That’s why tongue twisters can be used as perfect pronunciation exercises when mastering pronunciation of separate sounds and phrases. They can be used to check up whether the pronunciation rule was assimilated by a foreign language learner or whether this or that sound is pronounced correctly. Besides, every tongue twister presents a good exercise for lips and tongue, and when learning them by heart you can enrich your vocabulary and memorize plenty of set expressions.

Here is the list of English tongue twisters, which can help to master pronunciation skills not only to those who study English as a foreign language, but also to native speakers:

1 She sells sea-shells on the sea-shore.

2 We surely shall see the sun shine soon.

3 Fresh fried fish,

Fish fresh fried,

Fried fish fresh,

Fish fried fresh.

4 A big black bug bit a big black bear, made the big black bear bleed blood.

5 A tutor who tooted a flute, tried to tutor two tooters to toot.

6 Which witch wished which wicked wish?

7 The two-twenty-two train tore through the tunnel.

8 Twelve twins twirled twelve twigs.

9 Swan swam over the sea. Swim, swan, swim! Swan swam back again. Well swum, swan!

10 I thought a thought. But the thought I thought wasn’t the thought I thought I thought.

Having good social skills is very important. You interact with people throughout your day and being able to do so skillfully will help you.

Not only in a work environment where social skills allow you to build business, but also on a personal level where you gain friends through your people skills.

Knowing the basics will help you to build good people skills that can make you successful in building good relationships.

Social skills are the way you interact with other people. It includes the way you talk, your body language and how you treat others in general.

We start building social skills at birth. We learn how to talk, how to react in certain situations and how to act towards others by what we learn from those around us.

If you have problems with your people skills it is easiest to fix them by looking at the basics.

1. Learn to stay calm.

You should not be nervous or worried during your social interactions. This only leads to mistakes and others seeing you as being aloof. You can also focus more on others and the conversation if you are calm.

2. Watch your body language.

Much of our conversation is based on body language. You can make others feel uncomfortable with body language or you can make them feel at ease. Body language includes hand gestures and facial expressions as well, so watch fidgeting or weird facial movements.

3. Learn to be interested in others.

This comes natural to most, but for others focusing on someone else can be hard. If you make eye contact and listen to others you will learn how to focus on them and not other things around you.

You will come across as genuinely being interested in others and people tend to enjoy interacting with someone who cares.

4. Look at how you use your social skills.

Before trying to change you should take a look at how you interact now. See what seems to be wrong so you know exactly what to work on.

5. Work on your general conversation skills.

You may need to brush up your communication skills if you find you have problems just carrying on a conversation. You should look at good conversation starters, how to handle others during a conversation, body language skills and small talk skills. Knowing how to be a good conversationalist will help your social skills immensely.

These five points cover the basics of people skills that everyone should know. If you go through and learn all five you should be able to tackle any problems you have with social skills.

Individuals who are looking to start careers in software engineering will find that this field holds a wide array of opportunities and prospects for all qualified candidates. There is evidence that in the next few years, software engineering will become the fastest growing profession in many developed economies. This is good news for the software engineering job market because both employers and job applicants alike will find it easier to meet their respective recruitment needs. However, as more individuals choose careers in software engineering, the job market will become increasingly competitive. On the other hand, if more people choose careers in software engineering, it will be less likely that there will be occurrences of skills shortages within this engineering field. Project managers, information systems managers, programmers and systems designers are examples of some of the most lucrative software engineering roles. There are also certain key skills and attributes which are always in high demand in the software engineering industry. These include analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.

It also appears that more engineering firms are seeking to employ engineering sales professionals. This is not surprising given the fact that sales is vital part of driving the growth and profitability of any business. As with most sectors of the economy, the influence of specialist recruitment firms streamlines the whole process of recruiting within the engineering sector. Over the years, Quanta has been able to build a good track record and reputation for providing effective engineering recruitment solutions. When it comes to identifying and meeting the cultural and organizational needs of both their corporate and candidate engineering clients, Quanta is definitely one step ahead of other recruitment agencies. This is because Quanta builds and maintains close relationships and communication links with the top engineering employers in both the UK and in Europe. This also allows Quanta to obtain an immediate visibility on new roles. Quanta also utilize some of the recruitment industry’s most sophisticated and advance back office tools.

Furthermore, their teams of qualified recruitment consultants are able to provide candidates with expert recruitment advice and guidance. Quanta also take a genuine interest in the long run career progress and success of their candidates. This is shown by the fact that after a role has been successfully secured, Quanta enroll their candidates on to their candidate care program. The candidate care program helps candidates settle immediately in their new role. It also enables them to begin making effective contributions in an expedited fashion.

Experts in child development often say that parents are the first educators. And, whether parents elect to traditionally educate their children or dedicate a significant portion of their own time, effort, and resources to homeschool their children, the simple truth is that parents can, should, and do begin educating their children long before they introduce any sort of formal education.

Many parents, especially new and homeschooling parents, hesitate to “push” a child into reading before they are “ready.” However, reading is merely a visual representation of the spoken word. And, just as we teach our children to talk and the appropriate words for objects and people, we can begin early to teach our children how letters (i.e., symbols) represent certain sounds, and when those letter symbols are grouped, they form words. This natural education process is less “pushing” than it is simple language acquisition. Some educators and experts refer to this process as pre-reading.

Pre-reading Leads to Reading Success

Pre-reading activities begin early and most parents aren’t even aware they are preparing their young children to read. Parents might sing the alphabet song to help a cranky baby get to sleep. A child’s bedroom or playroom might be festooned with an ABC border. Vibrant letter magnets could adorn the refrigerator enabling parents and children to form words. These (apparently) unusual activities are what prepare children to learn to read.

Pre-reading is really all about exposing the child to both spoken and written language. Parents can set their children up for success without pushing by making sure that they have the maximum exposure to these activities. Technology has even given children a new opportunity for early learning called syllabics. Syllabics, which focuses on the sounds associated with all letters, or phonics, which deals mainly with the sounds associated with the consonants, can be easily learned with readily available preschool computer software.

Pre-reading, Games, and Conversation

Even before children learn to talk, parents naturally set them up for verbal communication. How many times have we all witnessed parents who talk to their children while dressing them? That parent might say something like “Here’s your pretty pink dress!” or “Would you like to wear the red shirt or the green one?” Those parents who talk often with their children long before the kids can hold up their own end of the conversation are, almost stealthily, teaching their children pre-reading skills.

Another way young children learn pre-reading skills is through exposure to those well-recognized early reader board books. These books, made from thick cardboard and easy for less-than-nimble fingers to manipulate have simple, colorful pictures and short, basic words. They help pre-readers learn to associate words with objects and people in a different way than they were learning when they held an object in their hands while mom or dad told them what that object was or when they began learning that people had names and titles.

Measuring Pre-reading Success

The success of a parent’s pre-reading instruction can actually be measured. In general, children who have had lots of pre-reading activity exposure begin speaking earlier than children who have not. Consider that research indicates that parents who speak to their children often seem to have kids who begin to speak at an earlier age. Parents who limit how much they speak to their very young children might notice that those children are “late” talkers.

Children learn quickly and naturally, given the opportunity. And, although parents might be hesitant to push their children into learning, they must also understand that it is their responsibility to give their children the tools they need to develop the proper pre-reading skills. Providing children with fun and interesting ways to develop language skills is very different from requiring a minimum number of formal teaching hours for pre-reading children. An important scenario is to focus on learning fun. The second might be more along the lines of the “pushing” that parents are trying to avoid. Knowing the difference between the two can set the stage for reading success.
